WHAT WE DID Architecture, Interior Design Landscape Architecture

Denton, TX

MIDCENTURY MAKEOVER. Fairhaven Denton is a jewel of a building originally designed in 1964 by Arch Swank, Roland Laney, and O’Neil Ford, often referred to as the “Father of Texas Modern Architecture.”  The quality of the building’s original design still shines with its open spaces, ample natural light, high ceilings, and views of the outdoor spaces with big green trees and bright blue skies so prevalent in North Texas.  Exposed brick and concrete beams show off the structure and give a slightly industrial feel, while the original fireplace with a wrought iron hood warms the space.

Our renovation job was simple – find the right layers in the form of finishes and furniture to enhance and support what was already there.  We did this by selecting materials and textures that complimented the original brick. Other finishes were intentionally textural and subtle. The same is true for furniture, which features solid and textured fabrics.  Metal, wood, stone, and concrete were all used to create a modern aesthetic that supports the building’s original look while ensuring modern appeal.  Pops of color, in the form of artwork and accessories, is the final layer of design. The building's new, vibrant energy reflects its storied past.
